The bar needs its own bracket

A soundbar hangs on keyhole slots or a small bracket, and it is a separate load from the TV. It is fastened into studs with its own bolts and sits centered under the screen with a gap that clears the TV's lower edge.

Where the bar bolts land

The studs that carry the TV usually sit behind the bar too, but the bar is narrower, and its bolt spots may fall between studs. Where they do, a short backer or a toggle rated for the bar's weight is used.

The bar has its own bracket and its own studs. A soundbar is a separate load: it hangs on its own bracket, centered under the TV with an even gap.

What the numbers show

  1. Own bracket The bar has its own bracket, fixed into a stud, not hung from the TV.
  2. Even gap A small gap keeps the bar clear of the screen and of the TV's lower edge.
  3. Center line The bar is centered under the screen so the sound lines up with the picture.
  4. Short cables One short lead runs from the TV to the bar behind it.

Rear speakers and a shared wall

Rear speakers want to sit behind and beside the seats, on shelves or stands rather than on a wall. In a townhome or an apartment, bass carries through a shared wall into the neighbor's home, so the subwoofer sits on a wall that is not the party wall, away from it, or the volume is held in check.

Cords, optical and eARC

A single HDMI eARC lead from the TV to the bar carries picture and sound. It runs in the same raceway as the TV's cords, and the bar plugs into the nearest outlet without a cable inside the wall.
