Taking a TV down without a fall

A large TV is carried by two people, so the set comes off the bracket with help and goes face-up onto a blanket. The safety screws come out first, then the screen lifts off the rails. Cords are labeled before they are unplugged so the setup goes back together the same way.

The holes left behind

Taking a mount off leaves holes. Small ones can be filled with spackle, sanded and touched up; plaster needs patching compound that cures well, and a paint match is the usual challenge. In a rental, the lease says what the building expects at move-out.

Moving to a new wall or a new home

A relocation to another wall in the same home is a dismount plus a new mount, with the new wall read from scratch. A move to another home is the same sequence with a bracket check, since the old bracket is re-used only if it is rated for the TV and its holes match.

What happens to the old hardware

The old bracket and its screws stay with the owner unless the plan says otherwise, and a bracket that is no longer wanted is the owner's to dispose of. Disposing of a TV itself is a separate matter from the mounting visit.

TV Dismount and Relocation — common questions

How much does taking a TV down cost?

The estimator adds $38–$76 for taking down an existing TV before the new one goes up.

Can the old bracket be re-used?

Yes, if it is rated for the TV's weight and its hole pattern fits. It is checked against both before it is used.
